ABOUT

John Paul Torres

Having lived and raised a family in Waterford for the past 20 years, I love and cherish this community.  My wife and I have two daughters, one recently graduated law school and is a first-year associate attorney, our other daughter will start the fifth grade here in the Waterford School District.

From 2014 to 2020, I served on the Waterford School Board. I represented Waterford at the county, state, and federal level. As a parent, I have been active in PTO, Girls Scouts, and Waterford Watch DOGS (Dads of Good Students). As a School Board Trustee, I successfully pushed for increased funding for Waterford kids at the state and federal level, and always approached our budget with a view of fiscal responsibility while being a tireless advocate for strong academics.

Strength, Stability, and Experience are what I bring to the table. I'm a tireless, passionate advocate for Waterford. As a School Board Trustee, I have been at the forefront of the COVID-19 Pandemic advocating for Waterford kids. As an experienced Administrator with nearly 20 years in criminal justice, I have overseen multi-million dollar budgets and administered millions of dollars in grant programs.

I have a Master of Public Administration from the University of Michigan, B.A. of Political Science from Oakland University and have done Post Graduate Works through Michigan State University’s Department of Public Policy and Social Research.

As a Waterford Township Trustee, I will use my experiences in public service, and years as an elected leader to bring innovative ideas to the Township Board.
